IAQ & Energy 2019 Conference, Session 201:
According to recent studies by the U.S. Department of Energy and others,
the ventilation systems in most U.S. buildings today have structural
issues that render them ineffective and inefficient. As a result, poor
indoor air quality and excessive energy use are costing American
businesses billions of dollars each year in lost productivity, added
medical expenses and excessive energy consumption.
While the building industry has been aware of this issue for decades, the problem has been all but ignored for one primary reason – the absence of a viable solution. With ductwork and ventilation shafts hidden behind walls or otherwise obscured from access, repairing or replacing these systems has been both excessively disruptive and cost prohibitive.
